We will visit and walk in some lovely woodlands to collect a wide range of wild fungi including the delightful edible types, and those best left alone. WILDLIFE THROUGH THE CAMERA Ref: N1281
Keith Offord is a professional ornithologist, photographer, tutor and tour leader
The opportunity to photograph wildlife surrounds us daily, whether it is the flowers in your garden, birds on the table or more ambitious subjects such as flight or night photography. This course is designed for the beginner who may only have a basic camera and wishes to learn more about the skills and compositional elements which make a good photograph. Much of the activity will be in the grounds of Higham Hall (including having a go in a hide!) although there will be an outing to put into practice compositional skills. There will be a certain amount of walking and so it is essential that you are reasonably mobile. However, all destinations have been chosen based upon relatively easy gradients and good paths.
Residential: £185.00
Non-residential: £125.00

MORE MUSHROOMS Ref: N1290
Paul Nichol is a botanist and teacher with a special interest in fungi
Autumn is a wonderful season for walking in Cumbrian woodlands and also the best time to see the diverse range of mushrooms and toadstools that carpet the woodland floors. This course will combine the two, exploring a variety of woodland habitats and collecting a wide range of fungi. The course will suit those who have some basic knowledge and who wish to further their skills in identification. Although some knowledge will be assumed, help will be available to refresh and recap. If your interests in fungi are more gastronomic there will be something for you!
Residential: £270.00
Non-residential: £170.00

WINTER BIRDS Ref: N1336

Imagine spectacular gatherings of Barnacle and Pink-footed geese against a backdrop of a winter sunset and the massed pipings of thousands of waders as they swirl in the sky. The Solway coast is an internationally important wintering ground for many species prior to their northward migration. This part of the Cumbrian coast always plays host to an exciting array of raptors and we will be exploring some of the best spots and learning how to identify various birds throughout the weekend. (Continues to 4pm on Friday).

Non-residential: £180.00
