May 26th at 18:30 to May 28th at 16:00
This course will examine the Early Palaeozoic geological origins of the Lake District in detail, through a series of talks and practical sessions. We will scrutinise the deep sea sediments of the lost Iapetus Ocean followed by a dissection of the cataclysmic volcanoes that once reigned in this area. Our investigations will complete with the final collision of the supercontinent Pangaea in the Devonian. Includes a trip to a Palaeozoic area so wear suitable clothes! Note: Ends at Tea Break 4pm on the last day.
