GLOBE TO GLOBE: A HISTORY OF MUSIC ASSOCIATED WITH SHAKESPEARE Pt2 (1800-1995)

In the C19th & C20th, we find the Bard translated and thus attracting attention from continental composers with full concert pieces and operas. We will investigate Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Wagner, Verdi et al. who fell under his spell. Shostakovich, Walton took on filmic challenges. Finally, we almost come full circle with performances seeking to recreate the Elizabethan era by theatres such as the RSC, particularly with the opening of the new Globe. A roller-coaster tour to fascinate and enlighten.
