Ballet Russe took a tired art form into the C20th, setting new boundaries for most subsequent Ballet and commissioning music from Stravinsky, Ravel, Fall, Prokofiev, Satie, as well as avante-garde set designs from the likes of Picasso. The vision of Sergei Diaghilev blended such elements and made audiences gasp. Explore a remarkable story. BRING ALL HEAVEN BEFORE MINE EYES: BRUCKNER AND MAHLER

Bruckner spent his composing lifetime writing symphonies dedicated to God. In his final three symphonies, nos.7,8 and 9, whole movements seem to stretch heavenwards. Mahler, from the next generation and a friend of Bruckner, tackled a similar vision in his second symphony, Resurrection. (Course title is inspired byJohn Milton).
