Doug Mitchell – (Bookbinding)

Highly-respected expert in Bookbinding and Book Restoration. Conservator at the British Library in London as well as a tremendously experienced & popular Tutor. More courses run due to demand!

Doug is truly the best at his craft (so many people keep on telling us this) and is always highly-praised by his students here at Higham.  Binding is a fantastic skill used to restore old tomes and to create new ones and the genuine techniques employed can often be traced back centuries.

The third stage in learning bookbinding. Making books covered in leather is always a most satisfying thing to do. Make a C19th western style, smooth spine, quarter bound book in goatskin leather with decorative marbled paper sidings. Practise those endpaper making and sewing skills, taking the book through the construction stages, board attachment, leather preparation and forwarding.
