Ian Morison (Astronomy)

  • Emeritus Gresham Professor of Astronomy at the Jodrell Bank Observatory
  • professional radio astronomer,  a lifelong ‘amateur’ optical astronomer, a past president of the Society of Popular Astronomy and a founder member and now patron of the Macclesfield Astronomical Society.
  • Has written several astronomy books for amateurs, produces a monthly ‘Night Sky’ guide for the Jodrell website and writes an ‘Astronomy Digest’ on astronomical topics.


“We set our sighs on the heavens” – and are privileged to be able to offer an Astronomy course in the Autumn now. We cannot guarantee cloudless skies, but a fascinating opportunity to sense the excitement of what is up there is a wonderful opportunity, and is suitable for experienced amateurs as well as those new to the whole thing!

A weekend which will include some talks on astronomical topics of current interest along with much practical advice of the use of telescopes and their use in observing and imaging the heavens.
