Felt sculptor (aka Furzie) and tutor from Gloucestershire
Michelle’s Furzie creations and commissions are now living in such diverse and exotic places as California and Berlin, New Mexico and Swindon
In the Office here, we were so impressed when we first say what Michelle creates, but at the time we lost her details. Some detective work and one colleague’s good memory enabled us to track her down and we asked her to consider coming all the way up to Higham to share her secrets. Take a look at her website (furzie.co.uk) for examples – we honestly think this is one very talented person with a natural flair for her craft.
Woollen fibres are bonded together using specially designed barbed needles to form a firm material which can be made into 3-D shapes. It is very easy to do, no sewing, no gluing and requires minimal tools.
Michelle will introduce you to the craft of needlefelt and demonstrate how she creates her sculptures, sharing skills and techniques. She will help you decide what to make, work out the proportions and plan your project, approximately 12 to 18 inches in size, based on a wire armature. As Michelle says “once you have become confident in using the basic skills and techniques you are only limited by your imagination”.
