Box-making is a key element of a bookbinders skillset. Although the primary function of a box is protection, they are also considered to be decorative objects in their own right, suitable for housing not only books and documents, but also jewellery and other precious or fragile artefacts and objects. This course will examine, study and fabricate a range of attractive box structures. We will also consider the materials used in their construction and how they can be adapted and modified. The course will be hands-on, working with board, card, bookcloth and marbled/decorated fine papers. No previous experience necessary.
