OIL PASTELS

Suitable for beginners and improvers. Oil pastels are a versatile medium, whether your aim is a quick sketch or something more painterly. The pure, rich colour of oil pastel can be applied using many techniques, some of which we will practice layering, blending, impasto and sgraffito. We will also use a variety of papers and card to explore what additional effects they can bring. There will be a tutor-led painting to start with as a warm-up exercise, followed by plenty of time for you to experiment with your own pieces. Bring your own photos and sketchbooks for inspiration or find it in the landscapes and gardens at Higham. A starter pack of oil pastels is provided together with a range of surfaces.  Please bring your own oil pastels as well, and an A3 size folder to carry your work home. Also, an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes.
