Take a stroll around Higham’s grounds with Cumbria Lichen and Bryophyte Group member Pete Martin for an enjoyable introduction to lichens, overlooked yet remarkable features of the natural world that can be found, quite literally, on our doorstep – or any other surface and in any environment. Pete will highlight some of the species to be found at Higham, explaining the fascinating nature of what lichens are and what they do. As you walk around, he will explain key features that help with identification, discuss some of the environmental conditions that affect them and introduce the stories they can tell us about pollution and the history of environmental management.
