For those who enjoy walking and sketching. This is the ideal combination of both, exploring the local area with short, not too strenuous half day rambles and a whole day ramble. Your sketchbook is a unique document which celebrates nature, a source of inspiration for future image making, and a memory of time well spent in good company. Walking & drawing really makes you slow down and appreciate your surroundings. It’s a great opportunity to get curious and look closely. From the tiniest star-shaped mosses to the vast sweep of the landscape before us, our sketchbooks record time spent outdoors. Recording fleeting moments sketched on the hoof and longer sketches along the way we will create a rich visual record of our rambles which capture a sense of place.
We will explore:
Sketching outdoors with graphite sticks, water soluble oil pastels, and other mixed media
Techniques to freely express and interpret nature and landscape
Seeing and drawing the world in a playful and non-judgemental way
Ways to simplifying the landscape and capture the essence
Creating looser more energetic sketching bursting with life and feeling for place
Playing with scale, texture, perspective and composition
Rediscovering how to relax and enjoy the process rather than worry above the results
