Using natural (undyed) and tannery dyed leathers, students will learn how to apply a wide range of decorative finishes and textures to a leather surface, including: craquele, printed resist, transfer print, dyeing and colouring. The completed leather samples will then be used to cover a millboard plaquette with lined doublure which can then be used to further work the leather surface using inlayed and onlayed decorative elements. Although these techniques are of particular use to bookbinders they can also be applied to a wide range of related leather crafts.
