Based in rural Warwickshire, Nicola combines drawing, painting and stitch to make her work. Active in the embroidery industry for 34 years, she is a senior tutor and fellow of the Royal School of Needlework, holding a Commendation from the Beryl Dean Award for Excellence in Teaching.
She was a member of the stitching team that worked on Catherine, the Princess of Wales’ wedding lace in 2011, and contributed to the Anointing Screen for the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023.
Awarded Overall Winner of the ‘Inspired by Morris’ competition launched by the William Morris Gallery in 2010, she then staged her solo show at the same venue - ‘The Art of Embroidery: Nicola Jarvis and May Morris’ in 2013. Funded by Arts Council England, this popular exhibition then toured Arts and Crafts properties around England for a further three years.
From 2010 onwards she has designed and delivered embroidery courses and staged exhibitions of her students’ stitched artworks at the Ashmolean Museum (2017) and Bodelian Library (2020) Oxford, in collaboration with historian Dr Lynn Hulse of Ornamental Embroidery.
The first volume of her much-loved embroidery project book ‘Life in Seasons - Winter/Spring’ was published by Inspirations Studios in January 2024, and the highly anticipated second volume of ‘Life in Seasons - Summer/Autumn’ is released in January 2026.
Nicola produces embroidery kits for the Nicola Jarvis Studio brand and paints beautiful needlepoint canvases for her new label - The Hand Paints.
