Mark Bassey is a jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, educator and band leader, known for his irrepressible stage presence as well as his consummate skill as a musician. He is regarded as a highly versatile musician having played and recorded with many jazz luminaries including John Dankworth & Cleo Laine, Mike Westbrook, Nikki Iles, Alan Barnes, Charlotte Glasson, Billy Jenkins and the BBC Big Band, and also at Ronnie Scotts with Liane Carroll. He has been described as "a superb, witty player" (Dave Gelly). His playing can stretch from the "raucous" (John Fordham) to an "exquisite sound and perfect phrasing" (Brian Blain).
Mark's career spans over 40 years. Always as passionate about his teaching as his playing, he has worked tirelessly in the field of music education, teaching jazz skills to all instrumentalists and vocalists, running classes in harmony, improvisation, composition and arranging. He is an honorary associate of the Royal Academy of Music. Based in West Sussex, he currently teaches workshops from his home studio and on-line. He also leads
two jazz orchestras, the Sussex Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Jamboree Orchestra. He is married to Hilary Burt and they have two lovely dogs
