The northern Lake District contains many characterful old churches set in beautiful rural locations, some surrounded by mountains or hilly meadows and one or two with views across to the wide Solway estuary. Join Lionel on sketching and painting expeditions to seven different churches and churchyards to hone your skills in drawing both architectural and natural forms using line tone, colour and mark to capture their unique sense of place. There will be demonstrations throughout including line drawing, tonal studies and mixed media in colour. We will look to the work of great British artists such as JMW Turner, John Piper, Sheila Fell and Percy Kelly for inspiration and to consider their different approaches to expression.
