TEXTS, TRADITIONS & TRANSLATIONS: THE CREATION OF THE BIBLE
Friday January 24, 2025 at 18:30 to Sunday January 26, 2025 at 13:30
As with all great literature the story of how the Bible emerged is a fascinating one. Why were some books included and others failed to make the cut? Why do Catholics and Orthodox have more books in their canon than Jews and Protestants? What happens when you translate a text out of its original language, and why do some translations like the Latin Vulgate and King James Bible carry such weight? Finally, once a text has been written and translated it needs to be interpreted – and that too is a complex process.
