Drawing on the expert WW2 knowledge of John Sadler and the local Solway coast knowledge of Fiona Stoddart this course offers two and a half days of fieldtrip visits to varied WW2 related sites in northwest Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway in southwest Scotland. The programme for this course will aim to explore the wider context of WW2 and how it impacted on some of the experiences of different groups of people who lived in and moved into the area because of the war effort. Field trips will be complimented by lecture sessions with a chance to study, examine and ‘try out’, WWII uniform, field gear, weapons and kit.
