A strong lyrical thread runs through the works of those composers who stayed true to the symphony in the 19th century. Starting with Schubert’s ‘Unfinished’ Symphony we will enjoy the pictorial aspects of Mendelssohn’s Italian and Schumann’s Rhenish symphonies, before concluding with two sometimes underrated masterpieces, Brahms’ 3rd and Dvorak’s 7th.
