Christopher Burns (Writing)

  • author of several novels and a collection of short stories, living in Cumbria
  • novels include ‘The Flint Bed’ (shortlisted for the Whitbread prize), ‘The Condition of Ice’, ‘In The Houses of the West’, ‘Dust Raising’ and ‘A Division of the Light’.
  • work has been praised by Melvyn Bragg, Kazuo Ishiguro, Margaret Drabble and Jane Gardam.
  • short stories have appeared in ‘The London Review of Books’,‘The Time Out Book of New York Stories’, ‘Granta Shorts’ , ‘Les Temps Modernes’, ‘Woman’s Journal’, ‘Prospect’ and others, and have been included in several anthologies.

Christopher's writing courses are especially for writers who already have embarked on their authoring skills and who are seeking to develop under the tutelage of a successful published novelist. We strive to offer other levels of course for beginners and different genres, but we also know that somewhat experienced wordsmiths hopefully can find others on the courses with a similar level of ability. Successful novel writing takes time and dedication, and with the help of genuinely experienced practitioners like Christopher, we hope to provide a curriculum that truly supports writers in their ambitions.
