Mary Day is a qualified teacher, having trained in Embroidery and Design at Loughborough College of Art and Design and in adult teaching at Nottingham University. Mary has specialised in painting on silk for more than forty years and has developed many courses for specific projects in painted silks and allied techniques and was involved in writing the City and Guilds Level 2 course for silk painting and has run her own specialist Silk Painting and Projects studio since 1985.
Mary is an active WI member and ran workshops for many years at the Women’s Institute Denman College and also had the opportunity to teach in the USA, Germany, France, Singapore and China. Whilst living in China, she was made a guest professor at the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute.
She has made appearances on Granada, Ideal World and Discovery TV and her work has been featured on BBC Midlands as well as in a one woman exhibition at Foyles Art Gallery in London.
Mary is a member of the Guild of Silk Painters, Life Member of the Embroiderers’ Guild and is also a member of her local art co-operative The Gallery at the Guild, Sheep Street, Chipping Campden, where her work can be seen on display for sale
