Paul is passionate about passing on his skills and knowledge to others - a good virtue for a Higham Tutor! Animals can be represented brilliantly in Pastel - and we think every artist should have a go at pastelling a cow as part of their artistic journey, so that is where we start!
"Having worked in pen and ink, watercolour and acrylic, several years ago I discovered pastel and have been captivated by this versatile medium ever since. In my animal portraits I aim to capture not only a realistic representation but also the character and personality of my subject.In my abstract work, I am looking to explore the opportunities of mixing pastels with other media, depicting emotions and fleeting moments in time.
It also gives me great pleasure to pass on my knowledge and experience at demonstrations and workshops." PH

ANIMAL PORTRAITS IN PASTEL

Higham Hall College Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth, Cumbria, United Kingdom

For both beginners and improvers. Complete a tutor-led portrait of an sheep on velour paper. Learn about various types of pastel and surfaces and practice layering, blinding and building up texture. After this exercise, work on a picture of your own choosing with Paul’s patient and generous one-to-one support. All materials provided but please bring
