Alex is a Contemporary Artist living and working in Cumbria. Primarily she is a mixed-media painter; her work is firstly rooted in drawing , and. Then the more formal elements of art, whilst exploring more abstract and expressive pathways.
She believes that we can all be creative and that being so is what makes us human.
Alex enjoys enabling others’ creativity, and honing others’ skills, of all ages and abilities. She has worked in a wide variety of settings, including health, well-being, community and education. She has been teaching and tutoring for over 30 years.
Alex has also worked with organisations such as Wordsworth Grasmere, Tullie House, and Beacon Museum and Art Gallery Whitehaven delivering community projects as well as her own art practice.
She has been delivering workshops in schools for over twenty years as well as running her own private classes and workshops. She often provides courses and critiques to Art clubs and societies in the North.
She studied Fine Art at Leeds University, and followed this with a Distinction in an MA in Art and Psychotherapy from Sheffield University. The latter helped develop her interest in the connections between art and the mind; this, along with her involvement with horses, music, the land, and more recently poetry, have taken her practice to new and experimental places.
