Christine Oxley trained at Reigate School of Art and Design in Heraldry, Calligraphy and Illumination in the early 1970s. Since then, she has built up a reputation across the country teaching calligraphy, including residential summer schools, adult education classes, primary school workshops, workshops for calligraphy societies and tuition in person and on zoom. The main focus of her work, however, has been carrying out commissioned work for a diverse clientele. These include formal presentation scrolls, books of remembrance, wedding stationery, poetry, family trees, decorative maps and plans. She has also worked in conserving and repairing pages from precious early printed books. Having recently relocated to Cumbria she continues to teach and carry out commissions. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with others and passing on this traditional craft to the next generation.
