Emilie Fairlie-Baker

My practice focuses on the processes of block printing and natural dyeing fabrics. When I go for walks I look around and think about all the colours that are hidden within barks, roots and leaves and think what the forms would look like in print. Through the step-by-step processes of natural dyeing and carving printing blocks, I have time to learn about the stories and imagery of folk and traditional crafts connected to fabric, dyeing and women creating with the land. I am co-founder of Market Place Print Studio with my partner Jack. I carve my own blocks and often print onto my naturally dyed material to create my own unique fabrics.
