Stuart Eastwood

History

Born in East Yorkshire in 1956, Stuart Eastwood was educated in Hull and at Lancaster University where he obtained his degree in Archaeology and Medieval History in 1977. After several years of archaeological fieldwork in Cumbria, the north of England and the Midlands, he began his Museum career working in South Yorkshire. From 1984 he worked with Regimental Museum collections at Rotherham, Lancaster and latterly at Carlisle Castle, where he was Curator of the Border & King’s Own Royal Border Regimental Museum (Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life) from 1992 to 2020. In 2013-14, he managed the Museum’s major £1.8 million relocation project to Alma Block at the Castle. With his extensive military knowledge, he has written and co-authored five books on Regimental History. He is married to Peg, lives in Thursby near Carlisle, has two grown-up children and is now retired. He continues to do military and family history research, give the occasional lecture and pursue other interests including gardening, DIY, cooking, walking, railway & local history, pub quiz and volunteering for various groups in his village to name but a few.
