BOOKBINDING: THE MAMLUK BINDING MODEL

For nearly 1000 years, the Mamluks became a powerful military knightly caste in various Muslim ruled societies, developing their own style of religious text binding. We will make a model of this Islamic binding creating embossed leather, papers and covers using metal and wooden patterned blocks and traditional finishing tools as well as sewing chevron headbands - good hand skills needed.
