Lis Binns (Patchwork and Quilting)

  • Teaches regular classes at Inspirations in Preston and Creative Threads in Garstang.
  • Also gives talks and runs workshops for different groups and venues.
  • Lis started doing patchwork in 2006 but has been sewing most of her life (dressmaking, embroidery, blackwork, etc)
  • Has a City and Guilds certificate and diploma in patchwork and quilting.

Lis has taken over from Janette Fairer and came highly recommended to us by several people who know her from the Lancashire circuit. We warmly welcome her up to Higham as we recognise the significance of upholding disciplines such as Quilting both as a pastime and also as a heritage craft.

We have tried to put examples of certain techniques below – Lis can help with anything you are already working on (we know the term UFO – Unfinished Objects – is recognised in many Quilting circles). By its nature, quiliting can start off with small projects and expand infinitely. Lis can start you off if needs be or you can bring existing work for attention and Lis advise as you go along.

This sampler quilt has been designed to allow you to practise making the units and to make increasingly more difficult blocks. The final quilt design uses set-in and corner triangles, and mitred corners…
