BOOKBINDING: INTERMEDIATE (LIBRARY STYLE BINDING)
July 11th at 18:30 to July 14th at 13:30

In this follow up from the beginner’s course we will concentrate on one significant change in the book structures of the 19th century. In this period a book structure was developed to counteract heavy use by the public, many of whom had no understanding or sympathy with the books they used which was why this structure became very popular with public and private libraries. The Library style buckram binding is one of the most satisfying book structures there is. It gives the book maximum support from head to tail and uses the combination of endpapers, spine lining’s and boards which allow it to stand alone, unsupported, which was why this structure evolved from using many of the features of account book binding.
