Edward Elgar (1857-1934) is often regarded as the greatest British composer. Though sometimes viewed as a composer of ‘Empire’, his life and music are far more complex than an easy, patriotic label would suggest. This weekend will aim to unravel the enigma which is Elgar, including his sacred choral masterpieces, as well as the remarkable orchestral works and a few rarities.
