ILLUSTRATING SHELLS, FOSSILS AND INSECTS USING COLOURED PENCIL
June 6th at 18:30 to June 9th at 13:30

After this three-day course, you may think again about some of the smaller things that often escape our notice in the natural world. Shells offer up the most amazing colours and patterns and fossils allow us to see millions of years in a fragment whilst insects have the most intricate shapes and iridescent colours that are a joy to illustrate. Bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, caterpillars, snails, ladybirds – the insect kingdom is vast. Students are encouraged to bring favourite shells or fossils; insects are very difficult to draw from life so we will need to work from very good photographs. Start gathering images from nature magazines or search for royalty free photographs online, or try taking your own. Working in both graphite and coloured pencils you will be shown how to draw and colour accurately and make your subjects come to life. Group demonstrations and individual tuition will be given throughout.
