We recently unearthed some photos of the occasion, 17 years ago, when The Millennium Wall Hanging was created by course attendees at Higham. You may catch sight of some past tutors Elizabeth Prickett (Ruskin Lace), Julie Andrews (Patchwork) and Bridget Rylands (Embroidery) and a number of their students.

- Ready to unveil – strings at the ready!
- Doesn’t it look great?
- Note the antlers above … a decoration belonging to the then Principal Alasdair
The Millennium Hanging currently adorns the chimney breast in the main corridor, and is particularly visible from the main staircase (minus antlers!), fittingly facing the 20th anniversary Stained Glass Window by Bill Davies. It represents an enormous amount of work and skill, with many people collaborating to produce a work which reflected Higham’s spirit at the turn of the century.
We are pleased to say that all the skills that went in to the Hanging are still thriving at Higham, with more tutors Karen Quickfall & Jan Gardiner (Lace), Janet Fairer & Ann Gill (Patchwork) and Angie Burt, Jane Matthews & Helen McCook (Embroidery) providing inspiration and expertise to the existing and next generation!
