Wednesday March 26, 2025 at 18:30 to Friday March 28, 2025 at 13:30

Norman Nicholson (1914-1987) was the foremost Cumbrian poet of his period and was honoured with several awards, including the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry (1977). Proud to be a regional poet, Nicholson’s work in many genres was nationally and internationally known and respected. Indeed, as his Guardian obituary notes, ‘some critics considered him the best Lakeland poet since Wordsworth’. Come on an exciting and surprising journey through Nicholson’s work, exploring his craftmanship, his deep knowledge of Greater Lakeland, and the important and lasting themes he tackled. The course will also consider some influences on Nicholson and works that he in turn inspired.
