is used to working with a wide variety of adults, from experienced artists to complete beginners.
"I love working with groups and find that students get as much from each other and group discussions as they do from me!" E.H.
Here is a broader description from Emily about the first CREATIVE COLLAGRAPHS course she is offering at Higham:
This creative course is ideal as an introduction to experimental collagraph printing, or as a refresher for those who already have some experience of this fascinating technique. We will spend the first part of the course making plates, using card, cement, glue, grit, various found materials, and the always popular dribbly glue. The course covers basic collagraph plate making techniques such as masking, layering, impressing and cutting into the surface.
You will understand how to create texture and line as well as tones from very dark to very light in your plates using a combination of everyday materials like sticky tape, and sand paper.
The next stage is printing; using linseed oil based printmaking inks you will soon be confidently inking up your collagraph plates, combining intaglio and relief techniques, and embracing colour.
My approach is relaxed and experimental, there is no such thing as a mistake! I try to make sure everybody has fun and the activities are designed to support you in developing your own unique creative approach to collagraph printmaking.
Everyone goes away with a mini portfolio of prints, which you can use to inspire further art work, create cards, or frame and put on the wall.
